Maphead ken jennings summary6/10/2023 ![]() ![]() The rest of the book turns out to be not much as well. My ego wanted to see what became of the interview. ![]() You see, Jennings interviewed me by email in his research while writing the book. In the interest of full disclosure, I have to admit that I bought this book to satisfy my curiosity. Maphead is his latest offering, this one covering the wide and varied world of maps and the nerds (his word) that like them. ![]() So, like athletes past their prime, he now writes. Since then, he's lost a Jeopardy exhibition contest that pitted him against IBM's supercomputer, Watson. You may remember Ken Jennings as the all-time winningest contestant on the television quiz show Jeopardy. In my case, the Ur-map was a wooden puzzle of the fifty states" You see that first map, and your mind is rewired, probably forever. The way modern mapheads discover maps as children is more like the way cavemen must have discovered fire: as a flash of lightning. ![]() Saga compendium two6/10/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Vaughan indicated that the entire series will span 108 issues. It is Vaughan's first creator-owned work to be published through Image Comics, and is the first time he employs narration in his comics writing. The comic was described in solicitations as " Star Wars meets Game of Thrones", and by critics as evocative of both science fiction and fantasy epics such as The Lord of the Rings and classic works like Romeo and Juliet. It depicts a husband and wife, Alana and Marko, from long-warring extraterrestrial races, fleeing authorities from both sides of a galactic war as they struggle to care for their daughter, Hazel, who is born in the beginning of the series, and who occasionally narrates the series as an unseen adult. The series is based on ideas Vaughan conceived both as a child and as a parent. Vaughan and illustrated by Fiona Staples, published monthly by the American company Image Comics. For me at least, there’s something achingly powerful about the very concept of portal fantasies, the idea that this wonderful, magical world could be connected to ours by some secret passageway that if you’re receptive to it, and you’re lucky enough, you could reach out and touch it, fall through the gaps of this mundane world with all its troubles and cares, and find yourself somewhere else, somewhere different. John Harrison gives the location of the Merrie England café in the bathroom of which one of the characters discovers a portal to the Pastel City I travelled in the train to Huddersfield just to check if it works, (it doesn’t). ![]() As a child I was always on the watch for doors in the roots of trees or the sides of hills. ![]() ![]() You’re nobody’s doorway but your own, and the only one who gets to tell you how your story ends is you.Ĭonfession time: when I move into a new flat, I still check the back of the wardrobe for magical worlds. ![]() The Road to Oz by L. They have quite a number of adventures, including time spent as ship's cats, and become very fond of each other, even though Peter longs for the comforts of his past life while Jennie cannot bring herself to trust human beings. Jennie takes it upon herself to teach Peter how to survive as a stray and moreover, how to act and think like a cat- all the little skills and rules of conduct for his new life. ![]() Luckily he meets a very kind and street-wise female named Jennie who is quite skeptical of his story until she realizes he does not at all behave like a cat, and moreover can read and understand human speech. Unceremoniously thrown out of the house, Peter-now-the-cat must find his way in a terrifying new world where everything once familiar is now strange.
